DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

We’re at the end of a small gravel lane off of Col. John Kelly Road, in Kelly Township about 3 miles west of Rt.. 15 and 1/2 mile east of Strawbridge Rd.  Dancing Bear Lane looks like a driveway!  Just look for the road sign. Turn onto the gravel lane and follow it all the way to the end (about 1/4 mile) over the creek and past a large house on your left.  We are at the end of the road.  Keep driving until you can go no farther, or until your see folks who will direct you where to park.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Our little gravel lane is winds around and crosses a small bridge.  Please drive slowly over the bridge and down the lane. The posted speed limit on the lane is 10 MPH.  Our neighbors are very kind about the traffic we get in and out of here, but they do appreciate our respect and care as we drive through their property!  We ask that you discover how slow 10 MPH really is!

So, friends, every day do something that won’t compute… Love someone who does not deserve it… Give your approval to all you cannot understand… Ask the questions that have no answers… Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias… Be joyful though you have considered all the facts… Go with your love to the fields. Lie easy in the shade. Rest your head in her lap. Farm report

Welcome to the first issue of the monthly Dancing Bear Farm newsletter. Our first few weeks in operation have been busy, exciting and a lot of fun! We have hosted five events, welcomed overnight guests from Philadelphia and booked reservations for a family camp out and a wedding shower.

We’ll use this space each month to update you on activities, developments & ideas hoping to happen here at this beautiful, welcoming, healing place on earth.

And now, a bit about the community of Dancing Bear Farm – the plants, the people and the land!

The Land

The blooms in the Meditation Garden have been wonderful. The many varieties of iris on the west end of the garden made a lovely showing for nearly the entire month of May. Now it’s time for the lilies to take the stage. The first calla lily has unfurled itself, the day lilies are beginning to bloom, and the tall orange-petaled lily is about to show it’s glory. Also ready to bloom are some very tall hollyhocks and milk thistle.
The vegetable garden is buzzing with life! First crops of spinach and lettuce have already been fully harvested. The asparagus was abundant and delicious, and is now providing a tall, feathery backdrop to the rest of the garden. Beets, potatoes and onions are thriving. The swiss chard is tall and beautiful and quite productive. Seeds recently tucked into the soil were corn, cucumber, melon, winter and summer squash. And then of course there are the tomatoes and hot peppers, and a late crop of leafy lettuce greens hoping to fill our plates before the summer heat sends them to seed.

The People

Thanks to friends Wade Wright (and his most awesome rototiller) and Sarajane Snyder (and her most awesome green thumb) we now have a new medicinal herb and flower garden. There’s still room to add some of your favorites in this lovely new growing space.

The swimming pool is beginning to get some action as the temperatures rise. Evenings around the campfire are now surrounded by the twinkling of fireflies. Friends old and new, from near and far, are finding their way here to rest, relax and listen to the sounds of nature, in the air and in ourselves.

Eat fresh from the garden  ♦  Bike country roads
Write a book or finish a project  ♦  Create something wonderful in the craft studio
